Cavaliers

The experts in cuddles and snuggles!

Past puppies:

I had always wanted a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel since I was a teen, and finally started looking for one in my thirties.  This was in the very early 2000’s and at that time they were so hard to find, I decided I would breed them so I could always have them in my life.  I was already breeding horses, so this made sense at the time, and got my first breeding pair out of the UK.  My original breeding pair, Lilly and Bruno, passed at ages 15 and 16 with no heart issues.  That is extremely rare as 90% of Cavaliers will eventually die from mitral valve, as the original dogs that they started the breed with had this condition unfortunately.  However, as long as they don’t have it early in life they live a wonderful life with the average age being 10.

In 2014 we made a career move to Manitoba, and we landed in Lynn Lake. It is wild and beautiful up there, I have a lovely home with a lot of land and there are no ticks or fleas!
However May 2025 changed all that with the fires, and we were evacuated from our home May 27th, 2025, unable to return until September 23rd.  This, following the tragedies of 2024 and finding out my mother in New Brunswick is quite unwell, forced our decision to move back to beautiful New Brunswick, where I also assist my mother with her breeding Cavaliers on New Horton Lake.

Pups are sold on a non-breeding contract and my breeding stock have genetic testing, heart certification checks as required by the OFA.  The vet assess their hips, eyes by looking for any flaws and if found, refer to a specialist.  All are deemed healthy, and I welcome you to reach out to my veterinarian if you have any concerns.  My girls are retired by age 6, and then homed in loving families, boys have a longer breeding life, but that all depends on their health and whether or not I have females to match them with. I breed once a year and will only breed when I have a list.  I am well connected with the Cavalier community so I can usually find pups to match with the right home.

When it is time to pick up the puppies people usually come here, we are located on a beautiful property in a gorgeous area, and many owners will fly them home, they are quite easy to transport under the seat and travel well.  I can also do this for them, but I do not ship cargo.
When I have a list of potential owners, I will do a breeding, and in order to ensure they are ready for a puppy,  I like to do a zoom call to ensure the right pup is matched with the right home.  For example, the shy one would not be a good match for a boisterous family, and the adventurous, athletic one should go to a home interested in hiking, agility and not with the retired couple.  I have found this works well when matching pups to forever homes and have never had a pup returned.  Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,
Vicki & Steve Phillips
